SERVICES FOR JOHN KILGUS HELD YESTERDAY

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR JOHN KILGUS, WHO PASSED AWAY AT HIS HOME ON SOUTH FORTH STREET, ON TUESDAY MORNING AT THREE O’CLOCK, WERE HELD YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT TWO O’CLOCK AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH. INTERMENT WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY. MR. KILGUS, WHO HAD BEEN ILL FOR SOME TIME, WAS AGED 83 YEARS, TEN MONTHS AND SEVEN DAYS.

JOHN, SON OF FREDERICK AND CHRISTINE (HEINZEIMAN) KILGUS, WAS BORN AT BADEN, GERMANY, JULY 3, 1865. HE SPENT HIS BOYHOOD DAYS IN HIS NATIVE COUNTRY, COMING TO THIS VICINITY WHEN A YOUNG MAN AND HAD SINCE RESIDED IN THE FORREST AND FAIRBURY VICINITIES.

ON NOVEMBER 14, 1891, AT FAIRBURY, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO JOHANNA STREIB. THEY LIVED ON A FARM NORTH OF FAIRBURY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND THEN MOVED TO THEIR FARM NORTH OF FORREST. THEY RETIRED AND MOVED TO FAIRBURY 25 YEARS AGO. MRS. KILGUS PASSED AWAY JULY 17, 1942.

TEN CHILDREN WERE BORN TO MR. AND MRS. KILGUS, SEVEN OF WHOM SURVIVE. THEY ARE: HENRY AND ALVIE, OF FORREST; SAM, OF REMINGTON, IND.; MARY, AT HOME; MRS. FRANK HONEGGER, OF FORREST; BERTHA, OF FAIRBURY AND WILLIE, OF JOLIET. ALSO SURVIVING ARE A BROTHER, FRED, OF FAIRBURY, AND A SISTER, CHRISTINA BAUER, OF HOOPESTON. THREE CHILDREN, THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH.

MR. KILGUS WAS A MEMBER OF THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY FOR MRS. KILGUS

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR THE LATE MRS. JOHANNA STREIB KILGUS WERE HELD ON SUNDAY AT 11:30 A. M. AT THE HOME AT 527 SOUTH FOURTH STREET AND AT ONE O’CLOCK AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH. MRS. KILGUS PASSED AWAY LAST FRIDAY MORNING AT 1:30 O’CLOCK AT HER HOME, FOLLOWING AN ILLNESS OF ABOUT TWO YEARS, BEING 75 YEARS, 9 MONTHS AND 5 DAYS OLD.

JOHANNA STREIB WAS BORN OCTOBER 12, 1866, AT PEKIN, DAUGHTER OF PHILIP AND ELIZABETH (LANDIS) STREIB. THE FAMILY MOVED TO TREMONT WHERE THEY RESIDED FOR SEVERAL YEARS. ON NOVEMBER 14, 1891, IN THIS CITY, SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO JOHN KILGUS, AND THEY HAD RESIDED IN THE FAIRBURY COMMUNITY SINCE THAT TIME.

MRS. KILGUS HAD ALWAYS BEEN HELD IN HIGHEST ESTEEM BY HER NEIGHBORS, AND WHEREVER ILLNESS OR DISTRESS WERE FOUND SHE WAS ALWAYS READY WITH A HELPING HAND AND A KIND WORD. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

SURVIVING ARE HER HUSBAND, FOUR SONS AND THREE DAUGHTER: HENRY, ALVIE, BERTHA AND MRS. HILDA HONEGGER, FORREST; SAM, OF REMINGTON, IND.; WILLIE, OF OAK PARK, AND MARY, OF FAIRBURY. ALSO SURVIVING ARE TWO BROTHERS, HENRY AND PHILIP STREIB, OF FAIRBURY, AND THREE SISTERS, MRS. SUSIE SUTTER, MRS. LENA MILLER, ALL OF FAIRBURY. THERE ARE ELEVEN GRANDCHILDREN.

PRECEDING HER IN DEATH WERE THREE CHILDREN, MRS. SARAH VON BERGEN, PHILIP KILGUS AND GEORGE KILGUS, AND TWO SISTER, LEAH MUELLER AND EMMA MUELLER.

THE FOUR SONS OF THE DECEASED, HENRY, ALVIE, SAM AND WILLIE KILGUS, A NEPHEW, ALBERT VON BERGEN AND A SON-IN-LAW, FRANK HONEGGER, SERVED AS PALLBEARERS.

SURVIVORS INCLUDE TWO SONS, JOHN, FORREST, AND EARL, REMINGTON IND.; ONE DAUGHTER, ALICE MYER, BLOOMINGTON; ONE FOSTER SON, WILLIAM FARRELL, DALLAS TEXAS; FIVE GRANDCHILDREN; AND 11 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY ONE SON, FIVE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS.

HE WAS A MEMBER AND FORMER ELDER OF THE FORREST APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

HE HAD FARMED IN THE FORREST AREA UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT.

SAMUEL A. KILGUS, 89, A RETIRED FARMER OF REMINGTON AND BROTHER OF HENRY KILGUS OF FAIRBURY, DIED FRIDAY, FEB. 24, 1984 IN PARKVIEW HAVEN NURSING HOME IN FRANCESVILLE, WHERE HE HAD RESIDED THE PAST FIVE YEARS.

HE WAS BORN IN FORREST AND MOVED TO REMINGTON IN 1915. HE MARRIED ELSIE F. BECKLEY IN 1921. SHE DIED IN 1980.

IN ADDITION TO THE BROTHER IN FAIRBURY, SURVIVING ARE FIVE DAUGHTERS, MRS. EDNA LEMAN AND MRS. WALTER BAHLER, BOTH OF REMINGTON AND EMILY, ALTA AND MARY KILGUS, ALL OF LAFAYETTE.

AN ARMY VETERAN OF WORLD WAR I, MR. KILGUS WAS A MEMBER OF THE REMINGTON APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH.

MRS. ALBERT VON BERGEN PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME SOUTHEAST OF THIS CITY, MONDAY MORNING AT 9 O’CLOCK. SHE WAS TAKEN ILL JUST TWO WEEKS AGO WITH APPENDICITIS FROM WHICH SHE WAS APPARENTLY RECOVERING WHEN OTHER COMPLICATIONS AROSE, WHICH CAUSED HER DEATH.

SARAH KILGUS WAS BORN NEAR FORREST SEPTEMBER 28, 1898, AND WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO ALBERT VON BERGEN MARCH 20, 1919. SHE LEAVES BESIDES HER HUSBAND, HER PARENTS, MR. AND MRS. JOHN KILGUS; FIVE BROTHERS, HENRY, ALPHUS, SAMUEL, PHILIP AND WILLIAM; THREE SISTERS, MARY, HULDA AND BERTHA.

SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT 2 O’CLOCK. INTERMENT WAS MADE IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

MARY M. KILGUS, 83, A LIFETIME AREA RESIDENT, DIED AT 5;50 A. M. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 30, 1982, AT FAIRVIEW HAVEN NURSING HOME, FAIRBURY, WHERE SHE HAD RESIDED FOR THE LAST 11 YEARS.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD FRIDAY, JULY 2, AT THE FAIRBURY APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH. MINISTERS OF THE CHURCH WILL OFFICIATE.

VISITATION WILL BE THURSDAY, JULY 1, FROM 6 TO 8:30 P. M. AT DUFFY-PILS MEMORIAL HOME, FAIRBURY AND ONE HOUR BEFORE THE SERVICES FRIDAY AT THE CHURCH.

MISS KILGUS WAS BORN OCTOBER 28, 1898 IN PLEASANT RIDGE TOWNSHIP, THE DAUGHTER OF JOHN AND JOHANNA STREIB KILGUS. SHE NEVER MARRIED.

SHE IS SURVIVED BY TWO BROTHERS, HENRY KILGUS, FAIRBURY; AND SAM KILGUS, FRANCESVILLE, IND. SHE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY MANY NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

MISS KILGUS WAS A FORMER FAIRBURY HOSPITAL NURSING CARE EMPLOYEE.

6. HULDA (KILGUS) HONEGGER 1901 - 1977

HULDA R. HONEGGER, 76, OF FORREST, DIED AT 7:32 A. M. TUESDAY, DEC. 13 AT FAIRBURY HOSPITAL. SHE HAD BEEN ILL ONE YEAR.

HER FUNERAL WILL BE AT 10:30 A. M. THURSDAY, DEC. 15 AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH WITH THE CHURCH MINISTERS OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN THE NORTH APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CEMETERY.

VISITATION WAS FROM 2 TO 4 AND 7 TO 9 P. M. WEDNESDAY AT CULKIN FUNERAL HOME IN FORREST AND ONE HOUR BEFORE THE SERVICE AT THE CHURCH.

PHILLIP KILGUS, SON OF MR. AND MRS. JOHN KILGUS, WAS BORN ON THE KILGUS HOME PLACE, THREE MILES NORTH OF FORREST, JANUARY 17, 1905, BEING AGED 31 YEARS, 3 MONTHS AND 3 DAYS AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH.

SURVIVING BESIDES THE PARENTS ARE THE FOLLOWING BROTHERS AND SISTERS: WILLIE, OF CHICAGO; SAM, OF WOLCOTT, IND.; MRS. FRANK HONEGGER, HENRY, ALVIE, MISSES MARY AND BERTHA KILGUS, OF FORREST.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE NORTH APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH ON WEDNESDAY MORNING AT 9:30 O’CLOCK, AND BURIAL WAS IN THE CHURCH CEMETERY.
