MRS. MAGGIE PETER DIED AT THE HOME OF HER SON, MIKE PETER, FRIDAY MORNING, JAN. 26, 1912, AT 10 O’CLOCK, AGED 73 YEARS, 3 MONTHS AND 14 DAYS.

MAGGIE HANHS WAS BORN IN ELASE, GERMANY, OCT. 12, 1838. SHE LIVED PRACTICALLY ALL OF HER LIFE THERE, COMING TO THIS COUNTRY OCT. 3, 1910, SINCE WHICH TIME SHE HAD MADE HER HOME WITH HER SON, MIKE PETER, NEAR THIS CITY. SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MR. PETER IN 1886, AND TO THIS UNION TWO SONS WERE BORN, MIKE PETER OF THIS CITY, AND JOHN PETER OF JOLIET. SHE WAS A KIND AND LOVING MOTHER AND THOSE WHO MADE HER ACQUAINTANCE SINCE SHE CAME TO THIS COUNTRY RECOGNIZED HER CHRISTIAN CHARAACTER. THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE SOUTH CHURCH MONDAY. AMONG THOSE WHO ATTENDED FROM OUT OF TOWN WERE, JOHN PETER, OF JOLIET, AND PHILLIP AND GEORGE MOCHEL, OF REMINGTON, IND.

MICHAEL PETER, AGED RESIDENT, DIED TUESDAY

MICHAEL PETER, A RESPECTED RESIDENT OF THIS CITY AND VICINITY FOR THE PAST 58 YEARS, PASSED AWAY AT HIS HOME AT 533 SOUTH FIFTH STREET, TUESDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT THREE O’CLOCK, AT THE AGE OF 90 YEARS, SEVEN MONTHS AND 28 DAYS. HE HAD BEEN CONFINED TO HIS BED FOR SOME TWO WEEKS PREVIOUS TO HIS PASSING.

MR. PETER WAS BORN IN ALT-ECKENDORF, ALSACE LORRAINE, FRANCE, MAY 27, 1858, A SON OF JOHN AND MARGARET (HANS) PETER. IN 1888 HE CAME TO AMERICA AND TO ILLINOIS, FIRST LOCATING AT MORTON. TWO YEARS LATER HE CAME TO THIS VICINITY AND HAD SINCE RESIDED HERE. FIR MANY YEARS HE LIVED ON A FARM SOUTHEAST OF FAIRBURY. WITH HIS FAMILY HE CAME TO THIS CITY IN 1920.

ON DECEMBER 22, 1890, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MARY SOHN. SHE PASSED AWAY NOVEMBER 20, 1922. SURVIVING ARE FIVE DAUGHTERS AND TWO SONS, MISSES MARY AND LYDIA, AT HOME; MRS. JOHN FEHR, OF FAIRBURY; MRS. SILAS CLAUSS AND MRS. WILLIAM IFFT, OF STRAWN; JAKE PETER, OF FAIRBURY, AND BEN PETER, OF CHENOA. ALSO SURVIVING ARE 17 GRANDCHILDREN AND FOUR GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. A GRANDSON, SGT. JAKE PETER, WAS KILLED IN WORLD WAR II.

MR. PETER WAS A MEMBER OF THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH, FROM WHERE FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD THIS MORNING AT 9:30 O’CLOCK. INTERMENT WILL BE IN EAST GRACELAND CEMETERY.

MRS. MICHAEL PETERS

MRS. MICHAEL PETERS PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME ON SOUTH FIFTH STREET ON MONDAY AFTERNOON ABOUT 4 O’CLOCK, AT THE AGE OF 59 YEARS, 4 MONTHS AND 9 DAYS. SHE HAD BEEN ILL FOR SOME TIME WITH HEART TROUBLE.

MARY SOHN WAS BORN AT REICHAHEFFEN, ALSAC, GERMANY, JULY 11, 1863. WHEN TWELVE YEARS OF AGE SHE CAME WITH HER PARENTS TO THIS COUNTRY AND THEY SETTLED ON A FARM SOUTHEAST OF THIS CITY. SHE CONTINUED TO LIVE IN THAT VICINITY UNTIL ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO, WHEN THE FAMILY MOVED TO THIS CITY.

ON DECEMBER 20, 1890, SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MICHAEL PETERS, WHO TOGETHER WITH THE FOLLOWING CHILDREN SURVIVE: MRS. S. H. CLAUSS, OF PLEASANT RIDGE, IND.; JACOB, RESIDING NEAR THIS CITY, AND BEN, SALLY, MARY, ANNA AND LYDIA, AT HOME. FOUR CHILDREN DIED IN INFANCY. HER PARENTS AND THREE BROTHERS ALSO PRECEDED HER IN DEATH.

DECEASED WAS A FINE CHRISTIAN WOMAN, AN EXCELLENT NEIGHBOR AND LOVING WIFE AND MOTHER. SHE WILL NOT ONLY BE MISSED IN THE HOME, BUT BY OTHERS WITH WHOM SHE CAME IN CONTACT.

THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. INTERMENT WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

JACOB PETER, 75 DIES; FUNERAL RITES ON TUESDAY

JACOB G. PETER, 72, 712 E. OAK STREET, FAIRBURY, DIED AT 5:20 P. M. SUNDAY AT THE FAIRBURY HOSPITAL WHERE HE HAD BEEN A PATIENT FOR FIVE WEEKS. HE HAD BEEN IN FAILING HEALTH SEVERAL YEARS.

HIS FUNERAL WAS HELD AT 1 P. M. TUESDAY AT THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, WITH REV. JOSHUA BROQUARD OFFICIATING. BURIAL WAS IN GRACELAND CEMETERY.

PALLBEARERS WERE: PERRY CLAUSS, GEORGE ZIMMERMAN, WALTER WINTERLAND, EMIL SOHN, WILLARD WENGER, ALL OF FAIRBURY; AND RICHARD RIEGER, OF FORREST.

VISITATION WAS HELD FROM 4 P. M. MONDAY UNTIL NOON TUESDAY AT THE STIVER HOME FOR FUNERAL AND AFTERNOON TUESDAY AT THE CHURCH.

PETER WAS BORN APRIL 16, 1893, IN FORREST TOWNSHIP, A SON OF MICHAEL AND MARY SOHN PETER. HE ATTENDED RURAL FORREST SCHOOLS.

ON FEBRUARY 8, 1922, HE MARRIED ELSIE M. RUHLANDER IN BLOOMINGTON. THEY LIVED ON THE FARM UNTIL 1937 WHEN THEY MOVED INTO FAIRBURY. HE THEN OPERATED A TRUCKING FEED AND PRODUCE BUSINESS IN CRESCENT CITY AND WAS ACTIVE IN THIS BUSINESS UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN HIS HEALTH FAILED.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE; TWO SONS, EVERETT JAMES, AT HOME; EARL , OF JOLIET; THREE DAUGHTER, MRS. IRMA HILL, OF CRESCENT CITY, MRS. DARRELL SOPER AND MRS. MARILYN GRANT, BOTH OF BLOOMINGTON; ONE BROTHER, BEN, OF CHENOA; FIVE SISTERS, MRS. LENA CLAUSS, OF STRAWN, MRS. SALLIE IFFT, MRS. ANNA FEHR, MRS. MARY BOLLIGER AND MISS LYDIA PETER, ALL OF FAIRBURY; AND 18 GRANDCHILDREN.

HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS, ONE SISTER IN INFANCY, ONE SON, JACOB, KILLED IN ACTION IN GERMANY, MARCH 8, 1945. HE ATTENDED THE APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH

MR. AND MRS. JACOB G. PETER, WHO MOVED TO CRESCENT CITY JUST A YEAR AGO TUESDAY, RECEIVED WORD MONDAY FROM THE WAR DEPARTMENT THAT THEIR SON, S/SGT. JACOB M. PETER, WHO WAS KNOWN TO HIS MANY FRIENDS HERE AS "JAKIE" PETER, HAD BEEN KILLED IN ACTION IN GERMANY ON MARCH 8 LAST. SGT. PETER, WHO WAS 22 YEARS OLD ON JANUARY 13, WAS WITH PATTON’S THIRD ARMY.

SGT. PETER WAS INDUCTED INTO THE ARMED SERVICE JANUARY 29, 1943, BEING IN THE COAST ARTILLERY FOR QUITE A WHILE, RECEIVING HIS TRAINING AT BOSTON, MASS. HE RECEIVED FURTHER TRAINING AT VARIOUS POINTS IN THIS COUNTRY. WHEN HE TRANSFERRED TO THE INFANTRY HE WAS SENT TO CAMP MCCOY, WIS., FOR HIS BASIC TRAINING. HE HAD BEEN OVERSEAS SINCE DECEMBER, 1944

SGT. PETER WAS BORN IN FORREST TOWNSHIP SOUTHEAST OF FAIRBURY, JANUARY 13, 1923, AND LATER MOVED WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY TO THIS CITY, GRADUATING FROM THE FAIRBURY TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL WITH THE CLASS OF 1940. HE WAS EMPLOYED BY C. W. HICKS UP UNTIL HE ENTERED THE SERVICE.

SURVIVING BESIDES THE PARENTS ARE THREE SISTERS, IRMA, MRS. HAROLD SOPER AND MARILYN; TWO BROTHERS, EARL AND JIMMY, ALL AT HOME. MICHAEL PETER, OF THIS CITY, IS HIS GRANDFATHER.

HE DIED AT 10 P. M. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5, 1970 AT MENNONITE HOSPITAL, BLOOMINGTON. HE HAD BEEN ILL OVER A YEAR.

HE WAS BORN FEBRUARY 20, 1897, NEAR FAIRBURY, A SON OF MR. AND MRS. MICHAEL SOHN PETER. HE MARRIED MARTHA GAUGER IN FAIRBURY, JUNE 28, 1923. THEY RESIDED IN FAIRBURY AND MOVED TO CHENOA IN 1936.

HE WAS A MECHANIC AND WELDER BY TRADE.

SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE, FIVE SISTERS, MRS. LENA CLAUS, MRS. SALLEY IFFT, MRS. ANNA FEHR, MRS. MARY BOLLIGER AND MISS LYDIA PETER, ALL OF FAIRBURY.

HER FUNERAL WAS SCHEDULED FOR 10 A. M. WEDNESDAY AT APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, WITH CHURCH MINISTERS OFFICIATING. BURIAL WAS IN SOUTH APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CEMETERY.

DUFFY-PILS MEMORIAL HOME, FAIRBURY, WAS IN CHARGE OF THE ARRANGEMENTS.

SHE WAS BORN MARCH 21, 1899, IN FAIRBURY, A DAUGHTER OF MICHAEL AND MARY SOHN PETER. SHE MARRIED SILAS H. CLAUSS DEC. 22, 1921, IN PONTIAC. HE SURVIVES.

ALSO SURVIVING ARE TWO SONS, PERRY, KISSIMMEE, FLA.; AND GLENN, MELVIN; THREE SISTERS, SALLY IFFT, MEADOWS; ANNA FEHR, FAIRBURY; AND LYDIA PETER, PEORIA; AND THREE GRANDCHILDREN.

SHE WAS BORN OCT. 23, 1901, NEAR FAIRBURY, THE DAUGHTER OF MICHAEL AND MARY SOHN PETER. SHE MARRIED WILLIAM IFFT ON NOV. 25, 1948, AT FAIRBURY. HE DIED FEB. 17, 1974.

PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICES WILL BE HELD TODAY, THURSDAY, FEB. 17, 1972, AT STIVER HOME FOR FUNERALS. BURIAL WILL BE IN THE EAST GRACELAND CEMETERY. THERE WILL BE NO VISITATION.

SHE WAS BORN OCTOBER 5, 1903, IN INDIAN GRAVE TOWNSHIP, A DAUGHTER OF MICHAEL AND MARY SOHN PETER. SHE MARRIED WILLIAM BOLLIGER FEBRUARY 19, 1956, IN FAIRBURY.
