KEEPING TIME AT THE SOUTH SIDE

A CLOCK, LARGE ENOUGH TO BE VISIBLE OVER THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY ROOM, HUNG ON THE NORTH WALL. WINDING IT WAS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THOSE WHO DID THE "SERVING" EACH WEEK. IT HAD BEEN PRESENTED TO THE CHURCH ABOUT 1900 BY LOUISE WAIBEL PRIOR TO HER MARRIAGE WITH ANDREW STEFFEN.

MRS. ANDREW STEFFEN

MRS. ANDREW STEFFEN DIED AT THE KELSO SANITARIUM BLOOMINGTON, SUNDAY FOLLOWING AN OPERATION FOR GOITRE.

LOUISE WAIBEL WAS BORN IN UBENLINGEN, GERMANY, APRIL 19, 1871, AND CAME WITH HER PARENTS TO AMERICA IN 1883, THE FAMILY LOCATING NEAR CROPSEY. SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO ANDREW W. STEFFEN IN 1903. SHE LEAVES BY HER DEATH HER HUSBAND, FIVE CHILDREN, SAM, CHRIS, ALPHA, CLARA AND EZRA; FIVE BROTHERS AND SISTERS, FRED, NICHOLAS AND MRS. ROBERT BAHLER, OF REMINGTON, IND., GOTTFRIED, OF FORREST, AND MRS. LOUIS KOEHL, OF THIS CITY.

HTE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE SOUTH CHRISTIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH AND WERE CONDUCTED BY REV. M. MANGOLD.

THE RELATIVES FROM A DISTANCE WHO ATTENDED THE SERVICES WERE, MR. AND MRS. ROBEERT BAHLER AND SON CHRIS AND DAUGHTER TILLIE, MRS. WILLIAM BAHLER, MR. AND MRS. NICHOLAS WAIBEL AND SON GEORGE AND DAUGHTER MINNIE, MR. AND MRS. FRED WAIBEL AND SON AND DAUGHTER, HERMAN AND LOUISE, MR. AND MRS. JOHN CLAUSS, ALVIN CLAUSS, OF REMINGTON, IND.

AFTER THE CLOSING OF THE SOUTH SIDE CHURCH, IN 1949. THE CLOCK WAS GIVEN BACK TO A SON OF LOUISE WAIBEL, ALPHA STEFFEN. THE CLOCK HUNG ON HIS WALL UNTO HIS PASSING.

THE FUNERAL FOR ALPHA LOUIS STEFFEN, 92, OF FAIRBURY WILL BE AT 10 A. M. TODAY AT APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, FAIRBURY, WITH MINISTERS OF THE CHURCH OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN SOUTH APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CEMETERY, RURAL FAIRBURY. VISITATION WILL BE FROM 9 TO 9:45 A. M. TODAY AT THE CHURCH. DUFFY-PILS MEMORIAL HOME, FAIRBURY, IS IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.

HE DIED AT 3:15 P. M. SATURDAY, OCT. 21, 2000, AT FAIRVIEW HAVEN NURSING HOME, FAIRBURY.

HE WAS BORN NOV. 4, 1907, AT CROPSEY, A SON OF ANDREW W. AND LOUISE WAIBEL STEFFEN. HE MARRIED FANNIE MAE ZEHR ON JAN. 3, 1937, AT FAIRBURY. SHE SURVIVES.

ALSO SURVIVING ARE FOUR SONS, HENRY STEFFEN AND J. CHRIS STEFFEN, BOTH OF FAIRBURY; WAYNE STEFFEN, HUDSON; HERBERT STEFFEN, CROPSEY; 13 GRANDCHILDREN; AND 18 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

FIVE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS PRECEDED IN DEATH.

MR. STEFFEN FARMED IN THE CROPSEY AREA ALL HIS LIFE.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF APOSTOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCH, FAIRBURY.
